摘要:To encourage the child with the Down syndrome to become a responsible citizen and an active member of the family, he must be treated that way. His wishes and feelings must be respected. A parent is the one who knows the child the best, and he must know, that his child is like all the other children – and this is the key, the handicap has a second signification. If the parents can outrun these prejudices and this fear what come with the Down syndrome and the mental handicap, however, there are situations in which other people represent an obstacle by their ignorance and lack of experience. They see only the label (sickness), not the child. But the priorities retake their place. Like the intendent, where he becomes to know the child as a person, the handicap is not coming to the surface – this fact is loosing the importance. The child’s progress and wellness will be evaluated in the context of its general improvement. He will become a healthy, happy and preoccupied child. He has so many things to learn, but the others too, can discover that they also have many things to learn from him.
