摘要：We live in a society that is more and more busy with problems related to: Romania’s integration into the EU, economical development, different regional development policies as well as other problems that moves away the respect towards our parents or grandparents. If once the elderly persons had been appreciated by the community, in modern society this category starts to be more and more excluded. Today, due to the precarious economical situation, many old age persons become a burden for their families and not few are the cases when they end up in different care and assistance centres. Besides the economical situation we can enumerate also other causes, like: loneliness and lack of the support network, loss of their homes, immobilisation in bed, domestic violence or violence exercised by those hired to take care of them, lack of community funding to develop alternatives services to institutionalization, lack of ONG’s in the community etc. In order to be able to benefit of and fructify this thesaurus of experience and reflection, we need to involve the local community as well in the social assistance of the elderly.
