摘要:Food consumption p a t t e r n s a f f e c t e d by macro-level population c h a r a c t e r i s t i c s are examined with r e s p e c t t o p r o j e c t e d demographic trends. Standard demand models based on price and income are enhanced to r e f l e c t impacts of t o t a l population, household s i z e , and r e g i o n a l population d i s t r i b u t i o n . These models provide baseline information for i l l u s t r a t i n g e f f e c t s on food demand under d i f f e r e n t social-demographic s c e n a r i o s , such as changes i n p o p u l a t i o n s i z e , r e g i o n a l migration pat terns, and changes i n household s i z e , composition, and income growth, r a t e s . L i k e l y demographic p r o j e c t i o n s show a g r e a t e r p r o p o r t i o n a l e f f e c t of t o t a l population, household s i z e , and regional s h i f t s on food demand than income for some commodities and f o r t o t a l food demand.
