摘要:Recently new innovative warehouse layouts are suggested that do not follow usual restrictions of ubiquitous traditional designs. One of them, called fishbone layout, showed potential to reduce travel distances in unit-load warehouses by more then 20%. In manual-pick order-picking systems with case and item picking from multiple locations different routing policies are used. Small warehouses generally have different needs than large warehouses. They usually do not have warehouse management systems that are data intensive and involve high capital investment. Operational procedures are more nebulous and management control is less rigid. Because of the difference in operational approach, different measures are needed in order to enhance productivity. The study presented here considers arrangement and management policies to improve the order picking procedure in the existing company warehouse. The main objective was to reduce the overall picking time that is quite high due to the lack of proper management and the nature of the stored items. The first stage was to register the situation in the warehouse. The second stage involved the analysis of the obtained data, to identify promising modifications and quantify the benefits of adopting them. The proposed modifications were based on policies and methodologies suggested in the literature.
