摘要:The wireless mesh networksare considered as one of the vital elements in today’s converged networks,providing high bandwidth and connectivity over large geographical areas. Mesh routers equipped with multiple radios can significantly overcome the capacity problem and increase the aggregate throughput of the network where single radio nodessuffer from performancedegradation. Moreover, the market availability of cheap radios or network interfaces also makes multi-radio solutions more feasible.A key issue in such networks is how to efficiently design a channel assignment scheme that utilizes the available channels as well as increases overall performance of the network. This paper provides an overall review on the issues pertaining to the channel assignment in WMNs and the most relevant approaches and solutions developed in the area. They include design challenges, goals and criteria; routing considerations, graph based solutions and challenges of partially overlapped channels. We conclude that the assignment of channels to the radio interfaces continuously poses significant challenges. Many research issues remain open for further investigation.
