摘要：What is „religion“? – An introduction to the way scholars talk about „religion“ The article shows the way scholars talk about religion. Trying to define a comprehensive, meta-historical definition of religion the difficulties become obvious scientific scholars be faced with. Many of scholarly and academic attempts to define or to describe religion can be classified into one of two types: functional or depen- dence causing matter. Even though both types can be valid none of them seem to cause or achieve a compre- hensive definition of religion in coeval culture accepted by all applied sciences. The contemporary Study of Religions is trying to avoid the problems connected to functional or dependence causing matter theories by defining religion as an “open concept” which includes a bundle of functional and dependence causing matter provisions.
