摘要：The subject of psychotherapy between essentialism and naturalism. A symmetrical-anthropological per- spective on the mind-body dualism in psychiatry. Taking the recent advances made in the psychopharmacological treatment of mental illness as a starting point, this article discusses the epistemological status of psychotherapy. It will be shown that a dichotomy between somatic therapies and psychotherapies is untenable. The coming about of this rupture will be understood – and critically assessed – on the basis of its historical evolvement. Drawing on a historical case study as well as on Bruno Latour’s actor-network theory I will attempt to conceptualize self-technologies as processes of media- tion, thus rendering the rhetorical split between somatic and psychotherapeutic self-technologies obsolete.
