  • 摘要:The paper was designed to determine the effect that nesting Ethernet switches had on round trip delay of packets sent from a client to a server and back. A test bed of switches nested seven layers deep was used to collect data. Four experiments were run using both single client server pairs and four simultaneous client server sessions following the same physical path. These experiments were run on lightly and moderately loaded switches. The results revealed minimal delay on the physical switch level, but potentially dangerous delay when multiple client server sessions took the same physical path. Recommendations are provided regarding how to deal with the results from a hardware, software and personnel management level.
