摘要：Electronic social networking technologies are continuing to be driving forces in the business world. This study was undertaken to examine whether usage by college students is keeping pace. Results indicate that most undergraduates also believe that electronic social networking is either somewhat or very important to him/her. Moreover, this importance varies by gender and academic class. In addition, although not used by as many undergraduates as Facebook, Twitter is seeing dramatic growth within the student population and is highly utilized by those that have adopted the technology. As a result, faculty may find it increasingly challenging to maintain student focus during class time as faculty compete with these student handheld technologies. Moreover, there may be implications with regard to the IT infrastructure needed to support this escalating demand. Finally, there may be marketing opportunities with respect to undergraduate consumers as only 12% of students indicated receiving business tweets.
