摘要:Waist height ratio (WHtR) has been reported to have better predicting power in evaluating metabolic disorder than waist circumference (WC) and body mass index (BMI). The objective of the study is to compare the strength of relationship between three anthropometric measurements (WHtR, WC, BMI) with glycaemic control in Malay adult population using risk estimates and correlation value. A cross sectional study was conducted involving 190 Malay Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients attending diabetic clinic in Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia in February 2010. Systematic random sampling was applied. Information on sociodemographic and clinical history were obtained through interview. Anthropometric parameters were measured. Medical records were reviewed for biochemical measurements. Data was entered and analyzed for correlation and multivariable logistic regression using SPSS version 12.0. Females were slightly more (55.3%) than males (44.7%). Majority has uncontrolled glycaemic status (89.5%). Correlations between anthropometric parameters (WHtR, WC and BMI) with glycaemic control were not significant, weak and negative. WC was the only parameter that significantly associated with uncontrolled HbA1c (OR = 0.13, 95% CI=0.03, 0.57) after adjustment for age (years), LDL cholesterol (mmol/L), adequacy of fiber diet, adequacy of physical activity and type of diabetic drugs taken. WHtR was not found to be significant and superior than BMI and WC to predict glycaemic control among Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. Anthropometric parameters alone were not consistent to significantly influence glycaemic control in diabetic patients after adjustment for other potential variables.
