摘要：Honey, besides being a nutrient has been a subject of renewed research interest in the last few years for its multiple medicinal values. Evidence indicates that honey can exert several health-beneficial effects such as gastroprotective, hepatoprotective, reproductive, hypoglycemic, antioxidant, antihypertensive, antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory effects. Several different surveys have been compiled on the nutritional and health aspects of honey. However, the nutritional value and medicinal properties of natural honey are too numerous to be comprehensively documented by these manuscripts. This review presents a synopsis of experimental studies performed in the recent years, which support honey as a novel antioxidant and anti-diabetic agent that might be of potential significance for the management of diabetes and its complications.
