摘要:The effects of collimator diameter on attenuation of gamma ray in solids in the forms of foil (Pb, Ag, Cu, Fe, Sn, Al) were determined in the energy range 0.360 MeV- 1.33 MeV with a view to study the effect of collimator diameters and gamma ray energy on absorption coefficient under well collimated narrow beam geometry set-up. The measurements were taken for the linear absorption coefficient (μ), mass absorption coefficient (μ/ñ) and total photon interaction cross-section of different elemental solids of uniform thickness 0.15 cm, on NaI(Tl) detector using scintillation counter. The result shows that; as atomic number increases linear attenuation coefficient (μ), mass attenuation coefficient (μ/ñ) and total photon interaction cross-section increases, decreases with increasing photon energy under study. To study this effects narrow beam geometry plays an important role in attenuation of gamma rays, as collimator diameter increases the attenuation of gamma rays decreases with increasing energy.
