摘要:Possibilities of noninvasive diagnostics of neck and brain vessels have opened up a new chapter in the treatment of cerebrovascular patients. However, there is no general consensus on which parameter of spectral analysis is the best for the evaluation of the degree of stenosis. Some authors consider it is the peak systolic velocity (PSV), while others use mean blood flow velocity to determine the degree of stenosis. Our study sample comprised 50 hospitalized and ambulatory patients with the diagnosis of ischemic brain disease due to occlusive changes in the carotid artery, enrolled between June 2002 and June 2004. With increased stenosis of the ACI we observed exponential increase in PSV values. The PSV values did not change significantly with stenoses of up to 50%, while in the group with stenosis of 75-99% the mean PSV was 378 cm/sec for the right ACI and 330.55 cm/sec for the left ACI. Using ANOVA, a significant difference between the ACI stenosis groups (0%-19%, 20%-49%, 50%-74%, 75%-99%) was determined. In conclusion, PSV is a significant parameter in the assessment of the degree of carotid artery stenosis and it increases exponentially with increased degree of arterial stenosis
