摘要:BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Intracranial aneurysms are reported to be present in about 5% (range 0.1 to 9.0%) of the general population and the annual risk for rupture is estimated to be 1 to 2%. The identification of all individuals harboring an unruptured intracranial aneurysm is still unsolved problem. We performed a prospective study to determine the neurologic signs and symptoms characteristic of the unruptured intracranial aneurysms. METHODS: Sex, age, neurological signs and symptoms, size and localisation of aneurysm were registered for all patients. RESULTS: In the follow-up period we identified 34 patients (20 women and 14 men) with a total of 38 unruptured intracranial aneurysms. Average age was 48.6 years, 61,7% patients were younger than 49 years. 94.1% of patients had acute clinical manifestations and acute cranial palsy with headache was the most frequent (44.1%). Unruptured aneurysms occurred most frequently on internal carotid artery (44.1%) and middle cerebral artery (32.4%). The median diameter of aneurysms was 16.5 mm, 67.6% were 11 mm or greater in size. CONCLUSION: Clinical manifestation of unruptured aneurysm indicate a high risk of future rupture and it's diversity mandates a high index of suspicion if timely diagnosis and treatment are to be instituted
