摘要:Depression is the most frequent psychiatric disorder among hemodialysis patients. The assessment of depression depends primarily on the research methodology and the assessment instruments. Different methodological approaches used for the study of depression in hemodialysis patients have produced a great number of different, rather discrepant findings as regards the prevalence of depression in these patients. Our study comprised 93 patients, aged 24 to 78 years, who were treated with hemodialysis due to terminal renal failure. The assessment of depression was done using Beck's Depression Scale. Depressive symptoms of various severities were observed in two thirds of all study patients; mild to moderate depressive symptoms were present in more than one third, while moderate to severe symptoms were present in one quarter of all study patients. These results are in agreement with previous studies and emphasize the importance of early recognition of depressive symptoms
