摘要:Metabolic disorders are frequent causes of epileptic seizures. However, hypoparathyreoidism is nowadays, when thyroid disorders are mainly treated nonsurgically, rarely identified as a cause of symptomatic epilepsy. Hypoparathyro idism usually develops after surgical removal of the thyroid gland, when parathyroid tissue is accidentally damaged or removed, reducing or stopping the production of parathyroid hormones, which leads to disordered metabolism of calcium and phosphates with clinical manifestations of the disorder. After such interventions, thyroid hormone replacement therapy is commonly administered, along with calcium, in order to prevent hypocalcemia. However, some patients do not take prescribed calcium, either because of insufficient warnings by the doctor, or weak compliance, which results in manifested symptoms of hypoparathyroidism. Our case report points to one of the causes of symptomatic epileptic seizures and reviews other neurological symptoms which may occur due to deficiency of parathyroid hormones and resultant hypocalcemia
