摘要：The aim of this article is to determine whether there are differences in the incidence of risk factors for vascular dementia in the group of patients suffering from multi-infarct dementia (MID) and subcortical isch-emic vascular dementia (SIVD). methods and materials: The research included 60 patients suffering from vascular dementia according to the NINDS AIREN and SCADDTC criteria for vascular dementia. Based on the clinical and MR criteria the patients were divided in two categories: MID (28) and SIVD (32). The study assessed vascular risk factors and the total volume of ischemic brain lesions, which were measured by magnetic resonance (MR). Results: A difference in the incidence of vascular risk factors has been establish between the groups (p=0.068) with the folowing differentiation factors: use of alcohol (0.105), hereditary tendency for stroke (0.090), cardiovascular diseases (0.081). It has also been determined that MID group of patients has a higher total volume of ischemic brain lesions (p=0.012). Conclusion: The comparison of the MID and the SIVD groups of patients has shown that there are differences in the incidence of risk factors for vascular demen-tia and a more frequent use of alcohol, hereditary tendency for stroke, cardiovascular diseases and a higher total volume of ischemic brain lesions in patients with multi-infarct dementia than in those suffering from subcorti-cal ischemic vascular dementia.
