  • 摘要:The pain is always accompanied by different levels of stress that disturb the neuroendocrine axis and homeostasis in the human organism, leading to physiological and biochemical disorders. The estimation of the quality of life can provide precious data about functional ability, degree and quality of social interac-tion, psychological status, somatic sensations, and satisfaction with life. The aim of this investigation was evaluation of mental health of the patients with lumbar radiculopathy, using a questionnaire for estimation of health-related quality of life. The investigation included 100 patients with lumbar radiculopathy (57 male, 43 female), aged 36 to 55 years, who were treated conservatively or surgically. The evaluation of mental health was performed at the beginning of rehabilitation treatment, and during follow-up, at 3 months, 6 months, and 4 years. The Short-Form-36 Health Survey (SF-36) was used to analyze general mental health segments, i.e. 1. mental health, 2. emotional function, 3. social relations, and 4. vitality. The results of this study showed that at the beginning of rehabilitation all segments of the quality of life were worse in the group of surgically treated patients. After 3 months, improvement was recorded in all study patients for all measured categories, except social relations which only improved after 6 months. In conclusion, we found that mental health in pa-tients with lumbar radiculopathy is affected by surgical intervention, but not by lumbar radiculopathy itself.
