摘要:Headache is a common health problem which often begins in childhood. Seventycfive percent of children experience a headache by age 15. The most common types of primary headache in children and adolescents are migraine and tension type headache. The epidemiological data suggests that less than 1% of headache in children are symptomatic or due to organic lesion. Although they are very rare, brain tumors are the most common etiological factor of serious neurological diseases causing secondary headache disorders. Considering the absence of specific laboratory findings or markers, a thorough history is the key to diagnosis, and the first step is differentiation between primary and secondary headache. In case of secondary headache, an urgent workup is required in order to identify possible lifecthreatening neurological conditions with the aim of initiating an adequate treatment as soon as possible. Pain management should be specific for the type of primary or secondary headache. The goals of treatment are reduction of frequency, severity and duration of pain, exclusion of ineffective pharmacological treatment, improvement of quality of life, as well as educating the child suffering from headache and his or her parents about adequate lifestyle, i.e. how to avoid provocative factors, importance of adequate diet and sleep, regular physical exercise and rest and keeping a headache diary
