  • 摘要:Drought occurs due to a deficiency of precipitation over an extended period of time, usually for a season or more, affecting virtually all climate regimes. This deficiency results in water shortag e for some activities, group or environmental sector, causing economic losses and significant damage to human lives. Furthermore, water demand for growing human population, industrial development and agriculture has increased significantly in developing countries threatening the outcome of major environmental, social and economic problems. With natural calamities such as drought becoming a recurrent phenomenon, science-based interventions using GIS-based tools to predict the severity of drought in an area can potentially contribute to mitigation efforts.
