摘要：Computer network today are becoming popular day by day in our day to day life. The users are looking forward to use wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, WLANs based on the IEEE 802.11 Standards etc. that allow them to share information via wireless media. The user can access the network to communicate with each other anywhere and anytime using the communication devices. The wireless network has several advantages over the wired technologies like flexibility, mobility, cheaper and faster deployment, easier maintenance and upgrade procedures. Cross-layer design refers to protocol design done by actively exploiting the dependence between the protocol layers to obtain better network performance in terms of throughput, average end to end delay etc.. In this paper, we are providing a survey of different cross-layer proposals for wireless networks taking in account the ongoing research in this hot area. This article brief the readers an overview of cross-layer concept while discussing different cross-layer proposals given by researchers.
