摘要:This paper analyzes the relationship between total compensation awarded CEOs and company performance over the tenure of the CEO. The findings of the article indicate that CEO pay is positive and significant in explaining the change in market value of company equity spanning the tenure of the chief executive officer and, therefore, provide evidence that CEO pay is effective in resolving agency problems. Surprisingly, tenure of the company CEO is significant but has a negative relationship to company performance. This result from the study implies that CEOs may use their time in power to entrench themselves allowing them to set their own pay without linking it to the performance of the firm. Full Text
