摘要:The sugar beet campaign 2009/10 was, compared to the previous one, characterized by a lower sugar content. The yield significantly increased, and is comparable with values of quality growers of the neighboring states. The amount of sugar prescribed by the quota system was easily fulfilled and, as in other EU states, even a certain amount of surplus sugar was produced: in the Czech Republic, this was 29 % of total sugar produced (for bioethanol, chemical use, etc.) The whole EU quota for the 2009/10 campaign was 13,121 kt and the surplus quota 4,347 kt, thus 33.1 %. The average sugar content was 16.85 % (18.70–15.99 %). The average duration of a campaign in the Czech Republic was 93.4 days, and the total production of white sugar from beet was 431.8 kt. Seven sugar factories were operating in the Czech Republic during the past sugar campaign, the total standard capacity was 37,394 tons per day while one of the factories had surpassed 14,296 tons in a single day. The data confirm the fact that the Czech Republic with a 200 year tradition of sugar beet production is among the leading sugar producers in the European Union. The article briefly mentions investment events aimed at the improvement of ecology, technology and energetics that were realized in Czech sugar factories during the 2009/10 campaign
