摘要:The article refers to sugar industry expositions’ tradition, at the occasion of a new museum opening in Dobrovice. The Czech sugar-production history is well known and goes a long way back – we must not forget that there used to be more than 200 beet sugar factories in the country in the 19th century. The first industrial exhibition on the European continent was held in Prague Klementinum as early as in 1791. Other major exhibitions – national, ethnographic, jubilee etc. (1891, 1895, 1908...) always included large sugar industry displays. The same applied to regional exhibitions.Prof. Pries’ “Sugar Industry Collections” of 1896 represented the centrepiece of the Technical University Sugar Industry Museum, later National Technology Museum. The importance of sugar industry is also apparent from the fact that a 1908 sugar factory model (1:10, for a 500 mt/day capacity, Mr. Hoffmeister’s design) made together by all industrial equipment manufacturers of that time bears the acquisition number “1” and has been maintained until our time. Three other sugar factory models were described, but their fate is unknown:a) a 1896 model, from the Budapest Millennium Show;b) a 1901 model, from Prof. Preis’ research station, designed by Mr. Kašpárek;c) a 1948 model from the town of Kroměříž.Moreover, the Dačice Lump Sugar Museum is reminded of, as the world’s first lump sugar was produced there in 1843
