  • 摘要:Genetically modified plants can serve as highly efficient alternative for degradation of various dangerous organic pollutants such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), toluene and others from the environment. These compounds are persistent toxic xenobiotics difficult to destroy. The transfer of bacterial genes encoding dioxygenases into plant genome may help to successfull and efficient phytoremediation. It was confirmed by transfer of the gene for 2,3-dihydroxybiphenyl-1,2-dioxygenase to plants Nicotiana tabacum. The decrease of toxic substrate in medium in the presence of transgenic tobacco was up to 54 % higher than in the case of non transgenic plants. Genetically modified plants even produced higher amount of biomass and were more viable.
