  • 摘要:Although most trainee and serving teachers in Brunei are women, no studies have specifically addressed the problems o f female pre-service and in-service student teachers. However, literature indicated that a female undergraduate student recently left her teacher education program due to unaddressed mental health problems. The present study investigated other psychological problems in 20 Brunei female, mature-age, and part-time student teachers who were simultaneously engaged in employment, marital, and academic roles. Four students with extreme scores on the five domains (N, E, O, A, and C) of the NEO-PI-R scale and their facets, participated in the present study for in-depth analysis. They had diverse psychological problems including anxiety, introversion, narcissism, and dependent personality attitudes. Predisposition to these conditions can have harmful effects on a student's social functioning and academic achievement. Appropriate counseling was recommended to help these at-risk and vulnerable students. Future research should interview different mature-age female students to obtain additional insights and solutions
