  • 摘要:The proportion of elderlyinthe population growsall overthe world which means a great challenge providingqualified health care, care in nursing homes andcommunity carefor the elderly.Staff inthe elder care ispredominantlyfemale workforce with auxiliary part time positions andshorttraining.Care work is often, not recognized asheavy workin the same wayasmale-dominatedworking-classoccupations.Fromthe stand point of management, theemployers, home careworkersare situated outermostintheorganization.Fromthe care workers perspective, however, they are on thefrontline. InSweden, for a long period, quite a lot of pilot projects toprovidefull timework in home care and nursing homes have been carried out.The purpose ofthis studyis to examine howhome careworkersconsider opportunities to workfull time. What benefitscould be anticipated, what arethe obstacles, how should working conditions and environmental be changed for the care workers to accept and cope with full time employments. Further what trainingwould be neededand how shouldeducation be accomplished. The study has been conducted with round table workshops with two groups of women, employed as assistant nurses or as unskilled auxiliary nurses. They expressa strongengagementforcare work. They also express a perceivedcompetencefrom their experience on the front line, bothfor thehands on work and for higherlevelskills, for example ofassessment andadvanced commitments.Further theyare voicingadisappointmentin theemployerregardingorganization, equipment and support. The conclusions are, there is need for dialogue and co generativelearning between care workers, the employer and educationproviders, both as a way to meet the challenge the increasing proportion of elderly imposes, increasing the quality in care workand as a way to provide care workers with better working conditions
