摘要：The objective of this paper is to classify Canadian cens us divisions according to the distribution of manufacturing employment by industry. The study is motivated by the real theory of international trade. This theory assumes that each region has an identifiable border. Within the border the cost of transportation is lower between any two points than it is from a point within the region to any point outside. Exports and imports are needed to provide the margin of difference between the region's production and consumption of particular goods. Consumption is assumed to be similar among regions, while production may differ substantially. Since trade is the difference between what is produced and what is consumed, the specialization of each region determines its trade with the rest of the worldl When production exceeds con'sumption, the excess is exported; when consumption exceeds production, goods are imported.
