摘要:The significant contribu tion this volume makes to the literature on human urban settlements in the Third World is twofold. First, both in the conceptual framework outlined in Chapter 1 and in the seven case studies that follow, the issue of housing and gender is located firmly with respect to the broader political economy. The book engages in a debate over the social, as weIl as the economic, relations of housing. Human settlement is not marginalized as a concern of welfare. Second, most explicitly in Caroline Moser's conceptual first chapter and in her subsequent analysis of Indio Guayas, a barrio of Guayaqui, Ecuador, key conceptuaI problems in feminist theorizing are identified and examined.
