  • 摘要:Context: In India malaria is a major publichealth problem as 95 percent of the populationis exposed to the danger of being infected.Estimating the true disease burden of malaria inthe country is a challenge, as true burden cannotbe understood from ordinary count data on thenumber of deaths or number of infected cases.Objective: The goal of this study is to comparethe Indian states by the true burden due tomalaria (Plasmodium falciparum) in the year2010 and rank the states with respect to theirperformance to deal with malarial death.Study Design: To deal with count dataproblems as a representation of death, theBayesian approach is used. The source of data isthe National Malaria Control Report publishedby NVBDCP of 2009 and 2010 till the month ofAugust. The statewise comparison of death dueto malaria has been performed with allcomputation done using statistical software R.Main Outcome: Certain states like Orissa,Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Jharkhandand Assam had very high incidence ofPlasmodium falciparum infection. But themortality per unit exposure due to malarialinfection is least in Chhattisgarh.Results and Conclusion: This statewise malariadeath comparison can be helpful to authorize thestate specific malaria control programme, asseveral issues which are not clear from countdata.
