摘要:Background: School health has beenacknowledged as important since the beginningof 20thcentury. Malnutrition is a cause ofpoor cognitive performance and physicalgrowth in children3.This study wasundertaken to find out nutritional and healthstatus of school children of Surendranagardistrict.Method: A cross sectional study conductedin both private and government schoolsselected by simple random sampling. Eachclass had an enrolment of 50 students andall the students were examined. Pre - testedquestionnaire was used to collect informationregarding age, height, weight and nutritionalassessment for morbidities in a standardizedway.Results: Among 366 boys and 134 girls ofthe study population, Mean Body MassIndex ( BMI) for boys and girls were16.55 ¡À 2.58 and 16.75 ¡À 5.44respectively. BMI was more in the privateschool as compared to the governmentschool and Mid Upper Arm Circumference(MUAC) was also more in the private ascompared to Government school. About59.2% of children showed morbidities ofvarious types related to nutrition.Conclusion: The study revealed 59.2%morbidity in the school children related tonutritional problems. . BMI and MUACwere also lower than their reference valuefor that particular age group. In spite ofvarious National Health programs forbetterment of health of children, it isdiscouraging to note that there is a widehealth gap in the health status whichneeds further exploration
