摘要:BACKGROUND: Success at school increasesself-esteem. Any difficulty will haveconsequential effects on the psychological healthof the subject.OBJECTIVE: To assess prevalence of schoolproblems in male adolescents and to study role ofpsycho-socio-demographic factors.STUDY DESIGN: cross sectional studyMETHODS: 500 adolescents were interviewedusing a pre-tested, structured, questionnaire toelicit the information about problems faced bythem in school, academic performance, role offriends and family in studies, association withpsychological problems, substance abuse andsexual activity.RESULTS: The predictors of school problems inmale adolescents were education status of parents,family/household income and a large family. Theacademic problems were associated withdepression, substance abuse and disturbed familyenvironment.CONCLUSION: Considering the preponderanceof school problems in male adolescents fromfamilies with lesser education and lower income,the policy makers and health professionals requireto target this group with consolidated efforts
