摘要:T his study inv olves the suggestion of an alternative evaluation methodology to the tr aditional evaluation methodologies to be utilized in the evaluation of acquisitions that students are required to attain. The unit containing "Mixtures" was selected for the administration of the study ov er 98 students aged 14 -15 and studying at Grade 9. Following the teaching of the topic, performance ev aluation, which consists of the assessment of the process and the r esult, was applied as an alter nativ e to the traditional evaluation methodologies. Students were pr ovided with the activity content together with information regarding fiv e stages that would guide students during the completion of the activity. With the aim of assessing and evaluating the student activ ities, a detailed chart of measures was prepar ed. This evaluation scale displayed the fields, where student per formances could be evaluated. Student perfor mances were evaluated using a 3-point Likert-type s cale. Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis was utilized on SPSS in order to assess the relationship between the activ ity application stages. It was found that the s tages students followed during the course of the study were pair wise correlated. It was also concluded that s tudents, who managed to accomplis h the planning stage accur ately, als o completed the following s tages s ucces sfully. This study enabled teachers to ev aluate their students in terms of connecting chemistry topics with daily life experiences as well as coming to conclusions and attaining scientific studying skills. It is als o supposed that this s tudy would contribute to chemistry teacher s by providing them an alternative exper ience in evaluating their s tudents.
