摘要:The study examined the relationship between settlement patterns and development in the indigene, settler, and mixed communities in the central region of Ghana. The study used both primary and secondary sources based on 108 respondents from six communities (two each from the three groups) for the data analysis. The main findings of the study are 1) the indigene-settler divide is real 2) There are leading and lagging communities, the settler communities are more proactive and self supporting, while the indigenes are over reliant on government for development projects. 3) Politicization of resource allocation compromised equity in development projects. The key recommendation is that rural development is multifaceted and therefore requires an integrated approach from the local, regional and national levels to be successful.
