摘要：The recent adv ances in fing erprint sensi ng techno logy and imp rovement s in the accuracy and match ing speed o f th e fing erprint matching algorithms has inspired many groups to co nduct researches in Auto matic Fin gerp ri nt Id enti fication an d Authen ticati on (AFIA) which is b ecomi ng an attracti ve alternative to the traditional methods of identification. Fingerprint classification play s a major role in any large scale fingerprint iden tification syst em. Whi le i t canno t identify fi ngerp rints uniquely, it is helpful in determining when two fingerprints do not match and also it reduces the time complexity. This paper presents a detailed review on the existing classification approaches that have applied to fingerprint recognition problems. The explanation in this paper covers the various evaluation parameters used by AFIS classification approaches
