摘要:Background:Poverty can be intrinsically alienating and distressing. A summary ofresearch reveals that child born into and growing up in poverty is more likely to be inpoor health and have learning and behavioral difficulties. Aim:The present study is anattempt to study strengths-difficulties and experiences of loneliness in Below PovertyLine (BPL) children. Method:The total sample consisted of 120 participants (age range10-13 years), 60 BPL and 60 Above Poverty Line (APL) children. Each group furtherconsisted of 30 females and 30 males. The samples were drawn using conveniencesampling method. Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and Loneliness andSocial dissatisfaction scale were the tools used. Results:Children living in BPL familieshad more difficulties and low strengths as compared to APL children. No significantgender differences were found. Significant correlations were found between lonelinessexperiences and other variables under study. Conclusions:Overall findings suggest thepresence of psychological problems among BPL children and highlight the need forintervention programs to cater to the specific needs of this group
