摘要:An important part of contemporary confli ct studies is concerned with understanding why confli cts emerge and persist. Many explanations are limited, though, in the sense that they stay wi thin the materialistic realm and overlook the systemi c processes underlyi ng the self-activation of social conflicts. Both Hironaka's Neverendi ng Wars: the I nternational Community, Weak States, and the P erpetuati on of Civil War, representi ng the Stanford School, and Stephan Stetter's edited volume Territorial Confli cts i n World Society: Modern Systems Theory, International Relations and Confli ct Studies suggest shifti ng the focus from an act or-oriented approach that primarily considers the individual moti ves and i nterests of the conflicti ng parti es to analyzing conflicts from a world society perspective.
