摘要：Rumen fluid samples were collected to study the taxonomy of rumen ciliate protozoa belonging to genus Isotricha, from stomach of adult domestic buffalo (Bubalus bubalis). The present paper deals with the morphology of two species of Isotricha Isotricha prostoma and Isotricha intestinalis (Stein, 1859). Their body measurements, frequency distribution, variation of characters are recorded, Critical Comments are made on their specific identity, The observation are based on study of 50 specimens taken at random from different samples, I.prostoma is a large size species having the longitudinal ciliary rows with a large, elongated macronucleus, and the cytostome located anteriorly, I.intestinalis is oval in shape and large in size with longitudinal rows of cilia and large oval macronucleus; the cytostome located at the lateral side.
