摘要:I have read and admired Michael Apple's work for almost three decades. His article, "Rhetorical Reforms: Markets, Standards, and Inequality" (this issue) is once again a strong critique of the right-wing ideology and practice that has dominated education over the last two decades. While I agree with much of its substance, there are several areas where I believe Apple's analysis is problematic, as I explain below. Before continuing, it is important to emphasize that for too long critics have sniped at each other to the detriment of a progressive agenda. Nonetheless, we must criticize our work in constructive ways if we are to move ahead and it is in this spirit that these comments are offered.
