摘要:Background:Breast cancer accounts forabout 20% cancers in Indian women. Thenurses can play an important role ineducating women through speciallydesigned educational programme in theclinical setting, as well as throughcommunity out reach strategies that suitour social & cultural settings.Objective: The purpose of this study was toknow the knowledge, attitude & practices ofnursing staff towards the early detection ofbreast cancer.Method: A cross sectional study was carriedout in civil hospital Ahmedabad duringSeptember 2008. 250 nurses were selected outof total staff of 1000 nurses. Data wascollected by pretested questionnaire. Dataentry and analysis were done in Epi infoversion 3.4Results: The results of the study indicated that74% of the nurses knew that early detection ofbreast is possible.71% of the nurses would liketo go for early detection by mammography.Only 7.2% of nurses had undergoneinvestigation for early detection. 96% ofnurses want information regarding the breastcancer and most them by the mean of seminarand workshop.Conclusion: Though knowledge regardingearly detection was satisfactory but practicewas very poor. There is need to createawareness & periodic screening.
