摘要:Background: HIV/AIDS had profoundlyaffected every aspect of the health sector. Mostimportantly doctor's attitude of avoidingtreatment of HIV patients is mainly due totheir apprehensions caused by their lack ofunderstanding of the disease and its modes oftransmission.Aims and objective: To investigate a group ofdental students' knowledge about HIVinfection, attitudes towards treating HIV/AIDSpatients and behaviour practices.Materials and methods: study populationconsisted of 150 dental students from Collegeof Dental Science and Research Center,Bopal, Ahmedabad. who were treating patientsin the clinics of the college. The surveyinstrument was a pre-designed and pre-testedquestionnaire.Result: Mean age of the study population is20.5 yrs. According to them most commonmodes of transmission – sexual transmissionand contaminated blood transfusion.Preventive measures are use of condom andsafe blood transfusion and common oralmanifestation are Candidiasis, Apthous ulcer,Hairy leukoplakia. Range of score is 0-13.Mean score of knowledge regarding generaland dental aspects was 9.73 and 5.08respectively. Difference between two isstatistically significant. Most of them wereusing gloves and mask but not using protectiveeye wear as Universal Work Precautions.Conclusions: These findings highlight theimportance of teaching the dental students onvarious aspects of the disease. Universal WorkPrecautions implementation should beemphasized at an early level of theircurriculum and reinforced from time to time
