摘要：In this paper we analyze the influence of foreign investments on the host economy. Since 1990 mostdeveloping and transition countries have recognized foreign direct investments (FDI) as a major sourceof financial capital inflow, with the importance of state and capital market inflows significantlydecreasing. We use econometric analysis of data from countries which have already gone throughtransition process, follow the trends of foreign investments, and divide them into mergers andacquisitions on the one side and greenfield investments on the other side. Finally, we analyze investmentsinto the Serbian financial system where, from the beginning of the reform, foreign banking groups havebrought significant positive trends, especially through improving the sector's financial performances andproviding stable funding sources from abroad. Financial institutions in Serbia have gone through severaltransformations since the beginning of nineties. We end the paper concluding that the Serbian financialsector is today completely consolidated and represents the core for the development of the wholeeconomy and the potential source of capital inflows
