摘要:Introduction: DNA banking is popu lar in many co untries in the world but is litt le known in Poland. Purpose: Determine the kno wledge and o pinions o f student s of the Facult y o f Health Sciences of t he Medical University of Bia.ystok about DNA banking. Material and methods: The study comprised 108 student s who volunteered to part icipate. Data were co llected on a quest ionnaire that was developed by researchers. Results: Most o f the students (72%) had heard of DNA banking; 53.0% fro m TV, 32.4 % from t he Internet , 14.3% fro m newspapers, and 11% at the University. Of the responding students, 53.4% answered that DNA bank ing is ethical and beneficial. Nearly 26% decided to bank their o wn DNA. According to 33.5% of the students,a DNA samp le is venous blo od. Only 27.2% o f the respondents knew that DNA bank ing is conducted in Poland, but none of t hem cou ld name the city where t he bank operates. Nearly half of the students (53.5%) reported that DNA bankin g is a molecular backup. Almost all the respondents (92.8%) wanted to increase their knowledge abo ut DNA banking. Conclusion: The students' knowledge about DNA banking is poor, however almost all the respondents wanted to increase their knowledge abo ut DNA bank ing. The main so urce of students' knowledg e about DNA banking was TV and the Internet. Nearly one-fourth of the respondents wanted to bank t heir o wn DNA
