  • 摘要:Agenesis of the co rpus callo sum (ACC), a failure to develop the large bu nd le of fibres that co nnect the cerebral hemisp heres, occurs in 1:4000 individuals. It is charact erized by a partial or co mplete absence (agenesis) of an area of the brain t hat connects the two cerebral hemisp heres. The cause o f ACC is usually no t known, but it can be inherited as either an auto somal recessive trait or an X-linked dominant trait. It can also be caused by an infectio n or injury during the t welft h to the twenty-second week of preg nancy leading to developmental dist urbance of the fetal brain. Intrauterine exposure to alcohol can also resu lt in ACC. In so me cases mental retardation may resu lt, but intelligence may be only mildly impaired and subtle psychosocial symptoms may be present. Prognosis varies depending on the type of callosal abno rmalit y and associated conditions or syndromes. Online searches o f the databases EMBASE, PubMed, and Medline were performed, using the search terms children, co rpus callo sum, agenesis, absence, genetics, and neuro imaging. In t his article, we presented genet ics, ep idemio log y, and neuro -imaging o f ACC for t he last decade
