摘要:Introduction: Children type 1 d iabet es is accompanied by inflammat ion and microangiopat hy pro-ceeded with increased degradat ion o f tissues. Nacetyl-β-hexosaminidase (HEX) is the most active o f exo glycosidases degrading oligo -saccharid e chains of g lycoconjugates (glycoproteins, g lycolipids and proteoglycans). Purpose:To evaluate the hexo samin idase B (HEX B) act ivit y in the saliva o f children with type 1 d iabetes. Materials and methods: The study was performed in 35 children with type 1 d iabetes and 20 healthy children. Salivary HEX B act ivity was determined by the colorimetric, and protein by bicincho ninic acid metho ds. The HEX B activity concentration was expressed in pKat/mL and specific activity in pKat /μg of prot ein. Results:A sig nificant increase in t he concentration and the specific activity of HEX B in the saliva of children with t ype 1 diabetes, as compared to healthy children, was found. Conclusion:Children suffering fro m type 1 diabetes have increased cat abo lism of salivary gly-co co njugates by HEX B, which po tentially may be useful in the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes in children
