In the past few years the number of married couples that have been experiencing temporary or permanent diffi culties with conceiving a child has increased. This is why the knowledge of young women and men’s awareness on this subject is worth noting and documenting. Knowledge on the topic of fertility can signifi cantly lower the risks and maintain individual fertility on the highest possible level.

The aim of the research was to discover the level of knowledge that young women and men have about factors that affect fertility. A group of 200 students from universities in Lublin were the subjects of this study. The diagnostic survey and literature analysis were methods used in the work. Research techniques included questionnaire and statistical techniques. The research tool was a questionnaire form.

The results of the studies showed that there was a high level of awareness and understanding of fertility. The level of respondents’ knowledge about the infl uence of life style on fertility, including stress and drugs, is mostly satisfactory. The level of knowledge about alcohol infl uence on fertility is high. Despite this awareness, such factors like increased physical activity, body mass are still to be further educated about. Above all, the researched group was unaware of the infl uence of drugs and nicotine on fertility. Age and residence of studied population have small infl uence on the level of knowledge about factors affecting fertility, and it depends on gender to a small extent and on the kind of university to a great extent
