The aim of the study is to present the insulin pump in the context of various study results, showing the advantages and threats resulting from its use in type 1 diabetes mellitus treatment in children and adolescents.

Material was collected in the literature, encompassing the following issues: type 1 diabetes mellitus, pharmacological management and insulin pump use in the effective treatment of the disease. Analysis of studies performed in the USA, Australia, Brazil and Slovakia in 2005 and 2006 served as a verifi cation of the thesis concerning insulin pump effi ciency in type 1 diabetes mellitus treatment.

The quoted studies fully confi rm the therapeutic effi - ciency of the insulin pump for therapeutic process in type 1 diabetes mellitus. Simultaneously, they draw attention to the possibilities of threats resulting from improper insulin pump use or user ignorance in practice.
