Ovarian carcinoma occupies the 4th position with respect to the frequency of occurrence of cancer among females, and the 5th position from the aspect of death rates.
Cancerous disease and all its accompanying symptoms considerably affect the quality of life of patients.
The objective of the study was the presentation of prophylactic-rehabilitation procedures performed by nurses, based on case report of a patient who had undergone symptomatic surgical therapy in an advanced stage of ovarian carcinoma and restoration of patency with stoma. The recognition of nursing problems and proper nursing interventions covered:
The period from admission to the ward to surgery
Post-operative and follow-up period
Conclusions:
1. Early prophylactic and rehabilitation activities undertaken by a nurse supported the process of treatment and nursing of a patient.
2. Education preparing for self-care played an important role in the in the process of patient adaptation to the new health situation.
3. Pain relief and minimizing fear and anxiety was an important element of the nursing care in the process of solving patient’s problems of biological and psycho-social nature.
