Physicians employed at general clinics of the district health care administration believe the basis of therapeutic process is a well-organized addiction treatment model where the leading role is played by a psychiatrist. The lack of professional preparation of family doctors to addiction treatment causes incorrect approach to patients with alcohol problems. This results in e.g. failing to establish the treatment procedure, which is crucial for the efficiency of therapeutic process.
The studied physicians did not co-operate with antiaddiction therapeutic centres, did not participate in the work of educational and information groups where the individual therapeutic plan for patients and their families was implemented. Family physicians do not know a patient’s situation in his living and working environment and are unable to play the role of creator in the therapy of alcohol abusing patients.
