其他摘要：So far the category of number and mor phological variations in nouns of Var.na sub-dialect have not been investigated and described in terms of natural mor phology. The main goal of the article is to dis-cuss the categor y of number in this sub-dialect on the basis of the empiric data, to identify semantic groups of nouns that are used in an unusual form of the number as well as to state reasons for variations in the number category. The conducted analys is revealed that the structure of the category of number in Var.na sub-dialect is based on the opposition of the singular and the plural represented by different morphological markers of the grammatical category; the dual number functions only as a semantic po-sitional var iant of the plural; 2) the singular may replace the plural in a certain context, thus, it may vary; the result of this process is a notional unity between the unmarked and marked members
